Do you want to be part of the team behind TEDxZurich working to create new days of wonder, inspiration and awe?

TEDxZurich is part of the global TEDx program of self-organized events that bring people together in the spirit of ideas worth spreading, and organizing events where TED Talk videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.

Position Overview:

TEDxZurich seeks an experienced Speakers Associate to start in August 2024 as part of the TEDxZurich Salon Team – the team producing smaller, thematic events, such as TEDxZurich Women and TEDxZurich Countdown. 

Working closely with the TEDxZurich Salon Lead, you’ll be responsible for the speakers aspect of two to three annual events. This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who is not only enthusiastic about TED’s mission but also possesses the experience and talent to drive our efforts to spread ideas that change everything.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively source ideas worth spreading and relevant speakers throughout the year and screen nominations
  • Coach and curate the speakers, actively helping them to be ready for the stage
  • Set up TEDxZurich  introductory calls with every candidate
  • Organize and participate in three to four speaker rehearsals
  • Provide a constructive feedback on the talk drafts at each rehearsal
  • Make sure that the talk, video release, slides etc. are in line with TED guidance
  • Ensure speakers are taken care of at the event
  • Be a single point of contact for the communication between speakers and the team (marketing, ticketing, finance, post-event process)
  • Be an active member of the TEDxZurich Salon team

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in public speaking or a related field
  • Strong track record in coaching speakers
  • Broad network of specialists and leading voices in the fields of climate change, sustainability, women’s empowerment or other fields of interest are strongly preferable 
  • Passion for TED’s mission and a deep understanding of the organization’s values
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate the TEDx mission with enthusiasm
  • Detail-oriented with excellent project and time management skills
  • Fluency in English and German, both written and spoken

Commitment

We are a team of volunteers and depend on the commitment of each one to make the TEDxZurich Salon events a success. You are willing to invest time and commit to helping the team beyond your primary responsibilities. 

Time Commitment: Up to 8 hours per week, with flexibility to balance this volunteering role with paid job, hours increase as we approach the date of the events and decrease soon after.

Sarah Ebling

          Sarah Ebling holds a professorship in Accessibility Studies at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and is a senior researcher at the University of Zurich. Her research focuses on natural language processing in the context of disabilities and special needs, specifically, sign language technology and automatic text simplification. Her groups’ contributions involve artificial intelligence techniques with a strong emphasis on user involvement. She is involved in various international and national projects and leads a large-scale Swiss innovation initiative entitled „Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies“ (2022-2026; https://www.iict.uzh.ch/).
